Tonto National Forest-Volunteers
Perry Mesa Archaeological Survey
Friends of the Tonto and ASU are engaged in a long-term archaeological research project looking into the origins of the prehistoric population living on Perry Mesa east of the Agua Fria River. This area has long been recognized for its impressive ruins and plentiful rock art and a large part of it is incorporated into the Agua Fria National Monument.
In the last two years we have surveyed several hundred acres and recorded over 20 new sites. This year we will be continuing the effort. The project is open to anyone willing and able to hike all day across the rocky open grassland of the mesa.
If you have an interest in participating in the surveys, please submit contact form.
