Wilderness Steward

WILDERNESS STEWARDS ARE VOLUNTEERS WHO PROVIDE INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE TO VISITORS.  THEY SERVE AS HOSTS AND ACT AS THE "EYES AND EARS" OF THE FOREST SERVICE AT THE TRAIL HEADS AND ON THE TRAILS - AS A VISIBLE PRESENCE, THEY INTERACT WITH THE PUBLIC  AND COLLECT IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON CONDITIONS IN THE FOREST.

The work done by Wilderness Stewards is invaluable. With declining budgets and increasing populations, the Forest Service can use help in managing  Wilderness areas. Volunteers who serve as Wilderness Stewards supplement Forest Service efforts to educate existing and future wilderness users by increasing the visibility of wilderness protection programs to the public.
