Bullfrog Infestation Control

The Tonto National Forest is looking for some volunteers to help control an infestation of non-native bullfrogs at an earthen reservoir near Young, AZ. Bullfrogs are native to the eastern US and are a serious threat to native frogs in Arizona. They also eat mammals, birds, amphibians, fishes and reptiles. Bullfrogs will be captured by seining (essentially using a big net). Four-wheel drive may be needed to access the site in some weather conditions. Training will be provided. This is a long-term project, to ensure complete removal of the bullfrogs. Email Patti Fenner if you are interested in helping out with this project: pfenner@friendsofthetonto.org.
